Who we are
We are an Elder-Led and Deacon-Served Independent Baptist Church in Whitmire, SC.
Our Mission
The mission of this Church is:
To preach the Gospel of the Grace of God (Hebrews 4:16; Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 11:6; Rom 6:14),
To seek the salvation of the lost (Titus 3:5; John 3:16; Psalm 37:39),
To edify the saved (1 Cor. 14:26; Eph. 4:29); and
To carry out the commission of the Lord to evangelize the world (Matt. 28:16-20; Mark 16:15).
Our Covenant
Having been brought by the grace of God to embrace the Lord Jesus Christ, and to give ourselves wholly to Him, we do solemnly and joyfully covenant with each other to walk together in Him in brotherly love to His glory as our exalted Lord.
We do therefore, in His strength, engage that we will exercise mutual care as members one of another to promote the growth of the whole body in Christian knowledge, holiness, and comfort to the end, that we may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
To promote and secure this object, we will uphold the public worship of God and the ordinances of His house, and hold constant communion with each other therein.
We will cheerfully and regularly contribute of our money or property for the support of the poor and homeless, the expenses of the church, and for the maintenance of a faithful ministry of the gospel among us and all people.
We will not omit family religion at home, or allow ourselves the too common neglect of the great duty of training our children and those under our care with a view to the service of Christ and the enjoyment of heaven.
We will walk circumspectly in the world so that we may win their souls, remembering that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of sound mind; that we are the light of the world, and the salt of the earth, and as a city set on a hill.
We will frequently exhort, and if occasion requires it, admonish one another according to Matthew 18; in the spirit of meekness considering ourselves, lest we also be tempted and that as in baptism, we have been buried with Christ, and raised again, so there is on us a special obligation to walk in newness of life. May the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the. sheep, who through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make us perfect in every good work, to doHis will working in us that which is well pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Statment of Faith
We believe and accept a local church (1 Tim. 3:15) of a people born again (John 3:5; 1 Peter 1:23) redeemed with the precious blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:19). By one Spirit we are all baptized into one body (1 Cor. 12:13), thus becoming fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God (Eph, 2:19). We are members of His body (Christ’s) and of His flesh and bones (Eph. 5:30). Christ is the head of the church (Eph 5:23).
We believe that Christ is the only law giver in Zion (James 4:12). That no one other than Christ shall have jurisdiction over the said Church (Jer 3:15- Acts 20:28 - I Peter 5:2).
We believe and accept that the scriptures teach that it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35), and the body shall take up a freewill offering as it deems necessary for the support and upkeep of all the expenses, and within our means to maintain a faithful ministry of the gospel as pastor of the church. Remembering 1 Cor. 9:9 and 1 Cor. 9:14 that the Lord so ordained it thus.
We believe in one true and living guide as revealed in the Bible and the Holy Trinity, or Godhead, by the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost (1 John 5:7).
We believe the Scriptures, all 66 books of the combined Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired by God. We believe the Bible is infallible and inerrant in its original autographs and is the Christian’s final authority in faith and conduct (1 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21). We accept the King James and the New King James translations of the Bible as authoritative for preaching and teaching.
We believe that God created the heavens and the earth and all things therein, according to the account given in Genesis, and that it is to be accepted literally (Gen 1:1; Col. 1:16, 17; Rev. 4:11).
We believe that God made man from the dust of the earth, and that He made him male and female in the image and likeness of God, and that He made him good. We believe that man was created in innocence under the law of his Maker and that man transgressed the law and fell from his sinless and happy state and lost his righteousness (Gen. 1:27, 2:7, 2:16-17, 3:6-23).
We believe in the total depravity of man, that he was unable to redeem himself from the fallen state he was in. Therefore, Jesus the Savior is necessary for man's redemption. (Gen. 3:24; Rom. 9:19).
We believe that God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). And that He is the propitiation for our sins, not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2). .
We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins (Eph . 2:8-10; John 1:12; Eph. 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18,19).
We believe that the gospel is the only means that God has ordained by which sinners are brought to Christ (John 14:6), and He has commanded that we go into the world and preach the gospel to every creature. “As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you." (John 20:21; Matt. 28:18-20; Rom.10:13-15; Acts 1:8; Mark 16:15; 1 Cor. 1:21, 24)
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, who convicts the world of sin or unrighteousness, and of judgment. That He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling, and sealing them unto the day of redemption (John 16:8-1; 2·Cor. 3:6; 1 Cor. 12:12-14; Rom. 8:9; Eph. 1:13,14).
We believe that Baptism and the Lord's Supper to be ordinances of Jesus Christ; given to the church by command (Matt:·28:19; 1 Cor. 11:23-26).
We believe that the only scriptural mode for baptism is by immersion of the whole body in water, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, and that believers are the only fit subjects for baptism (Rom. 6:4; Col. 2:12; Matt. 28:19).
We believe in an open communion service. That every born again, baptized believer in Christ has a right to the Lord's Supper. The only restriction being found in 1 Cor. 11:28.
We believe also that no ordinance is essential for salvation.
We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and secure in Christ forever. (John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Rom. 8:1; 8:38, 39; 1 Cor. 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:5). We believe that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God's Word; which, however, clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion to the flesh (Rom. 13:13, 14; Gal. 5:13; Titus 2:11-15).
We believe in election by Grace according to the foreknowledge of God and sanctification of the Spirit through the belief in the truth. God’s electing grace hath appeared to all men; the blessings of salvation are made free to all by the gospel; it is the duty of all to accept them. Nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth but his own voluntary rejection of Christ, when He is offered to us by him, the Holy Spirit, and his convicting, revealing, and drawing power. (1 Peter 1:2-3)
We believe that the church is the light of the world and is made manifest by keeping the commandments and examples of Jesus Christ, who is the head of the church in all things (Matt. 5:14; Eph. 1:22-23).
We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowment of all His gifts and that, the gifts of evangelists , pastors, and teachers are sufficient for the perfecting of the saints today (1 Cor. 12:4-11; 2 Cor. 12:12; Eph; 4:7-12).
We believe in the premillennial return of Christ. That the same Jesus which was taken “up” into heaven, bodily, personally and visibly shall so come again, and the dead in Christ shall rise first. The living saints shall be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump. The Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David and that Christ shall reign 1,000 years in righteousness until He hath put all enemies under His feet. (Rev 20:4)
We believe that God hath appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness by His Son, Jesus Christ. (Heb 9:27-- Acts 17:31 -- St John 5:22)
The Eternal State:
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to everlasting punishment (Matt 25:46; John 5:28-29, 11:25-26; Rev 20:5-6, 12, 13).
We believe that the souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the Lord, where in conscious bliss, they await the first resurrection, when spirit, soul, and body are reunited to be glorified forever with the Lord (Luke 23:43; Rev 20:4-6; 2 Cor 5:8; Phil 1:23, 3:21; 1 Thess 4:16-17).
We believe that the souls of unbelievers remain, after death, in conscious misery until the second resurrection, when with soul and body reunited they shall appear before God, and shall be cast into the Lake of Fire, to suffer everlasting conscious punishment (Luke 16:19-26; Matt 25:41-46; 2 Thess 1:7-9; Jude 6, 7; Mark 9:43-48; Rev 20:11-15).
As a safeguard against modernism and unbelief, the above statement of faith is never to be changed or amended.
21. We believe in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, that He is the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Holy Ghost in a miraculous manner; born of Mary, a virgin, as no other man was or can ever be born of a woman, (Gen 3:15; Isa 7:14; Matt 1:18-25; Luke 1:35; Mark 1:1; John 1:14; Psa 2:7; Gal 4:4; Lno 5:20; 1 Cor 15:47).
